Design – The SEO way

Presentation – is of prime importance and remains the cornerstone for any sort of advertisement. Pharaohs and Aztec Kings used to wear bracelets and rings embedded with precious gemstones just to exhibit their exalted status through their appearance in front of the public. Today’s party dress combines a Red Blazer with White trouser or a dazzling top. The indomitable desire of mankind to ‘show off’ has been reflected in Web Design also, where the objective of “How to draw attention” has been converted to “How to get Traffic”.

A corporate look or a jazzy appearance compatible to the nature or objective of the business is the prime condition for designing a website. The design is not only important to your image but is equally important for the search engine crawlers, who have been programmed by the human beings only.

Before starting, one must be very clear about the salient points or focal area of the page. The Headers and sub-headers are to be arranged accordingly. The precise content should cater to the point where the interest of the customer should have the top priority. Now the question of adding on jazzy effects to draw attention of the viewer arises.

The glitter of a turquoise worn on the ring figure can be reciprocated with the help of technology marvels like Flash or Maya. JavaScript can be added upon afloat on the Net free of cost. While imparting these effects the designer must remember that while glowing or moving elements in certain portions really draw the attention of the visitor or the search engine crawler their presence may also confuse the visitor. Technically, texts in Flash movies are hardly considered by the Search Engine crawlers, which have no penchant for JavaScript. Marquee in FrontPage or some other Web Design tool works just fine for highlighting one-liners or even continuous text like the list of clients. The experience reveals though marquee contents are noticed by the Search Engine Crawlers not all browsers support it. More significantly W3C does not validate marquee. So a compromise between a spectacular presentation and the compatibility with the search engine is the key challenge.

It may be noted that search engine crawlers prefer legible text just like common traffic. They also notice the headers and texts highlighted with bold or Italics alphabets. Now again an inappropriate application of bold or italic may confuse the search engine crawler.

Experienced SEO gurus advise to use CSS for proper segmentation. If any script is used for the menu and the details are furnished in the CSS then it clearly shows the difference between the content and the scripts, which is not only a healthy practice but equally preferred by the Search Engine crawlers.

Remember for a website to attract a first time visitor is not the only criteria but ensuring their return visit is. This conversion factor is what plays the crucial role for a better ranking at the search engines to ensure your success in the assigned marketing campaign.
